Happy weekend to you!

A colleague of mine borrowed me his Bamboo Wacom drawing tablet for the weekend and I've been playing with it lots. The illustration above is done on it. A drawing tablet allows me to create illustrations directly on my computer, without having to draw on paper first and then scan the illustrations to edit them. I've never tried drawing with a tablet before and I must say that I've fallen in love.

Tomorrow I will be celebrating 2 years from the day that I landed in Vienna to live here with my amazing boyfriend Chris and start a completely new, Austrian life. I can't tell you how happy I am here.

So cheers to a happy weekend!

Trouvé magazine volume 01: finally here!

I've ordered the first printed volume of Trouvé magazine in the middle of May. I really could not wait to get it. After two weeks or so have passed from the order, I was looking out for the postman, hoping that he would be coming to bring me a package every time he came into our office.
It was June already and the mag was still not here. I even reached out to the Trouvé team to ask if they knew where on the way from the US to Europe could my mag be stuck. They reassured me it is on the way. Okay, I'll wait, it must come.
Mid June and my mag is still not here :( I was really looking out for it now. Where is it? I see people's pictures on Instagram flipping through the pages and I am envious - they already have it, awwww.
Today a package on my colleague's table struck me. I do not know why I had a look - it was covered under other magazines that came through post - THERE IT WAS! - my Trouvé mag was stuck in a pile of catalogues and magazines at my colleague's desk. All that time. Since June 3rd.
Long way to my home indeed, but it is finally here.

Now I'm off to take a peaceful break and slowly flip through the pages. So glad.

Trying out oil pastels

I got myself yet another new sketchbook (the last one was A5, the new one is A4) and whilst I was in the art shop, I could not resist to try out a new medium - oil pastels. They looked so pretty and I could not remember the last time I've used them. Maybe in high school.. simply a long time ago.
Well, aren't they pretty?

I attempted to draw a portrait of Chris with the oil pastels like 5 times. It was sooooo difficult! Now I know why I haven't fallen for oil pastels in the past. I love working on details and with these, it is almost impossible.
In any case, I enjoyed doodling a flower pattern and I am sure I will come back to them in the upcoming days. I gotta find a way how to use them.

In the end, I picked up my good old best friend pencil :)

Please note that this is a work in progress, far from being done there!

Summer is here! Illustrations from Graz

We've been to Graz over the past weekend and I got myself a new sketchbook. I do not know if it was the sketchbook, or the gorgeous summer weather or a touch of a muse, but I felt really inspired and kept on sketching here and there pretty much the whole weekend.
Today I found some quiet time (about 4 hours to be exact) to process the sketches and I've put together a final piece welcoming the proper summer that is here.

Prague visit: Dad's studio and Loučeň castle

I really should have taken more pictures in my Dad's studio, but I hope at least a little bit of the atmosphere shines through the 3 photos above. His paintings are very powerful and each tells a story. Some tell a love story, other portray war scenes and some are scenes from a jazz club.
A lot of the things lying around his studio remind me of my childhood; I've grown up surrounded by tubes of paint, brushes and glasses with old paint in them. It's a magical place.

On Sunday afternoon we also visited Loučeň castle, which is a 40 minute drive away from Prague and is well worth the trip thanks to the - 11 labyrinths - that are in the castle park.
